RoomKey PMS uses 94% less energy than traditional server based property management systems

Reduce Environmental Footprint

RoomKey PMS software is centrally hosted. This delivery model helps reduce the amount of electricity required by each hotel to operate their property management system. Instead of each hotel having to use a dedicated server, we can effectively host hundreds of hotels' property management systems on 4-8 servers at our data centre.

Individually, the energy savings and emission reduction for each hotel is noteworthy. Collectively, all the hotels on our system are making a meaningful contribution to energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions. In 2008, we project RoomKey clients will prevent the emission of approximately 495 tonnes of CO2 and save themselves over $85,000 in utility costs - proving that we can have a positive impact a hotel's bottom line and help the environment at the same time.

Environmental Commitment

RSI has made a commitment to environmental stewardship through a variety of programs.

We are a carbon neutral organization through an offset program with CarbonFund.org.

We recognize that it's too easy just to buy your way to carbon neutrality so, in addition to offsetting our carbon footprint via energy efficiency initiatives with Carbonfund, we have also planned a 15% reduction in our overall energy consumption by the end of 2008 through employee based programs. By offering flex scheduling and free access to health club facilities, we are encouraging our employees to walk, bike or ride public transit as alternative means to get to work.

To further reduce our environmental impact, we have implemented a recycling program for all office paper, plastic and glass products.

In addition, we will be launching the first phase of our "paperless office" program in 2008 - our goal is too reduce our paper consumption by 10-15% in the first year through the implementation of digital faxing. Phase two of our program will see the addition of office wide document scanning and exchange server electronic filing. Our 5 year goal is to reduce our paper consumption by 75%.

We also offer complimentary monthly passes to all employees that want to commute to work via public transit.

RoomKey PMS Environment Fund

RoomKey is the only web based property management system that gives back to the environment!

The RoomKey PMS Environment Fund (REF) was created to support initiatives that address environmental concerns in communities around the world. The REF grows through donations made by RoomKey PMS clients, corporate partners and individuals. All client donations are matched dollar for dollar by RSI.

Donations made by RoomKey PMS customers are based on occupancy with the minimum donation starting at just $0.01 per occupied room night.

Donations by corporate partners and individuals can be made on a one time, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

Every quarter the RoomKey Environment Fund will award all doantions and matching company contributions to a global non-profit organization working on an innovative environmental project - REF contributors will be able to vote on the projects that will be supported by the fund.

Projects working in the following areas will be nominated to receive funding:

Air quality & alternative transportation
Renewable energy
Energy efficiency
Reforestation

Program Criteria

Projects nominated to receive funding must meet the following criteria:

Ecological Impact - demonstrates potential to generate significant environmental improvements
Action Oriented - primary focus should be on taking concrete steps that work to resolve local environmental problems and help to develop sustainable solutions
Innovative - focus should be on the development and implementation of an innovative project to address one issue area
Non Profit - project must be carried out through a registered non-profit organization

We believe it is important to be engaged in our communities and encourage all of our employees to give back by volunteering their time. We offer everyone four (4) paid days per year to volunteer with a non-profit organization of their choice.
